Honestly. I am not an apple hater but this device makes very little sense to me. Its not $500. Its $500 + 125 for 3G plus a few hundred for a data plan so you are talking 800+ in the end. And like anyone who has an ipod touch, these things are useless without connectivity and despite what we think, wifi is NOT in most places, (or wherever you really need it). Apple is a toy company. They make cool toys, but you can't work on this thing.

Actually, Apple is going to be offering a variety of options for a data plan. No contracts.
For those that travel frequently this will be an incredible tool. Actually, for many it will be.
I recently went on vacation with a friend who had an ipad. We took a lot of pictures and just transferred them into her ipad for viewing and storage, with the camera connection kit. Besides all the innumerable things it can do, this was really amazing. As soon as the price and weight come down, I'll take the plunge.
These things are quite amazing. If you want to save a little extra cash, look at buying refurbished directly from Apple. They replace the battery and hard shell so they are brand new. The applecare warranty is the same as it would be if the ipad were new ... and you can also buy the extended applecare. It's a win-win in my opinion.
