Gimping right along...
Here are three video tutorials that will give you a "hands on" look at the GIMP interface and some of the (basic) features.
The more I learn about GIMP the more impressed I am, this is one powerful program.

GIMP is indeed quite an application - given its abilities and proportionate cost (free). I was surprised with how close to PS it is in performance. There are some PS things I rely on that GIMP doesn't have (or are more tedious), but overall, it's a great program.
They've also got, hands down, the best support documentation for a GNU app, with a dedicated website and a podcast to boot!
