The value of a family portrait...

Sometimes we as photographers fail to recognize just how important what we do is, so it is easy to understand why clients (or potential clients) do as well.

But think about it, we are capturing a moment in time, a tiny slice of life that will be gone forever and will never return, so it's hard to understand why some people will balk at the price of a print but have no problem spending hundreds of dollars for just a single night out.

Here is a letter that will reinforce the importance of what we as photographers do and also reinforce the value of a printed image.

Thanks to photographer Jeanine Thurston for having the courage to post it.

I read this letter a few days ago, and it broke my heart. People don't realize that pictures are all some people have left.

truly amazing story. Thank you for sharing this. Every single times there are parties, and events at my home.. i am shooting pictures from left to write and practically every minute, a two hour event turns 600 photos for me, and my family laughed and said that i dont put the camera down.. well, i understand it clearly now. I understood before, but not like this. thank you
